The mouth of the truth is one of the most famous curiosities in Rome. It was originally one element of the cloaca maxima, the drain system which is going underneath the Roman Forum and which finishes in the river Tiber.
The legend from the Middle Ages tells if you put the hand and you are telling a lie the mouth will cut your hand. It became also very famous after the movies Roman Holidays with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck.
