Tiber Island - Hidden Secrets Rome

294 B.C. there was a Plague in Rome and the Priests of Rome sent some Ambassadors to consult the Temple of Esklapius in Epidaurus. The legend says when the ambassadors came back to Rome, a snake, personification of the God jumped out the boat and showed them the Place where to erect a Temple for the God of Medicine. The Romans, then built a Temple to Esklapius on the Island and the Plague finished. On the ruins of the Temple we have now the Hospital FateBene Fratelli. During the Roman Time the Island was decorated as a military Boat with the bow the stearn and the mast of the Ship represented by an obelisk. You can still see the ruins of the Esklapius Temple and the relief of the famous Snake coiled around a Stick, symbol of the Ambulances all over the World. On the Tiber Island are two old Bridges, the Cestius Bridge and the Ponte Fabricio, the most ancient Bridge in Rome.
